The Bernanke’s belonged to one of the few Jewish families in Dillon where Ben was nurtured and mostly frequented the neighbourhood synagogue Ohav Shalom. Harold Friedman, a skilled hazzan (cantor), shochet, and Hebrew teacher, taught Bernanke the Hebrew language when he was a young boy. The pharmacy that Jonas Bernanke, Bernanke’s paternal grandpa, had owned and operated was now owned and run by Bernanke’s father and uncle.
Well, it is said that, Bernanke met his wife, Anna who is a teacher on a blind date. As at that time he was a graduate student at MIT, while Anna attended Wellesley College. Joel and Alyssa Bernanke are the couple’s two kids. He routinely attends baseball games at Nationals Park and is an ardent supporter of the Washington Nationals.
