The 69-year-old musician attended the University of London for his education. He was proficient as a pianist and composer. He studied tuba under John Fletcher at the Royal Academy and directed many BBC broadcasts.
The brilliant composer worked on projects like Massine on Parade, Nutcracker, and Romeo and Juliet while he was a staff conductor of the London Festival Ballet.
The brilliant artist was the Principal Conductor of Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet from 1984 until 1988. He also led various British orchestras and performed as a pianist with Elite Syncopations.
In 1988, Tovey directed the inaugural season of D’Oyly Carte Opera Company. He was one of the great composers and music directors.
