Graham went to Crockett Vocational Tech, a school that first participated in football contests with the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) in 1996. Graham grew up in Detroit where he was born.
He was the first player from the Big Ten Conference to be taken in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Eagles with the thirteenth overall pick. At Michigan, he played collegiate football.
Graham was listed by Rivals.com as the second-best inside linebacker prospect in the country, the top high school football prospect in Michigan for the class of 2006, and the fifteenth-best prospect overall.
