Brett Michael Kavanaugh (/kaevn/ KA-v-NAW; born February 12, 1965) is an American lawyer and judge who currently serves on the Supreme Court of the United States as an associate justice. President Donald Trump nominated him on July 9, 2018, and he has been in office since October 6, 2018.
He formerly served on the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit as a United States circuit judge and as a staff lawyer for different federal agencies.
President Trump nominated Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court on July 9, 2018, to fill the vacancy left by Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement.
Christine Blasey Ford accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her in the early 1980s when they were both in high school. Two more women have also accused Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct.
All of the charges against Kavanaugh were made, and he denied them all.
The Senate Judiciary Committee convened a follow-up hearing on Ford’s charges.
Following that, on party lines, it voted 11–10 to refer the confirmation to the full Senate for a vote.
The Senate voted 50–48 to confirm Kavanaugh on October 6, with one Democrat voting in favour and one Republican voting against but not voting.
