Akers had amassed eight carries for 25 yards and three receptions for 13 yards before leaving the game on Sunday. Running Back Ty Chandler is prepared to fill in for Akers and assist Alexander Mattison.

The Vikings were moving down the field when Akers was injured late in the third quarter. In the middle of the field, he caught a pass and was awkwardly taken down. He cautiously left the field, even though he was able to do so on his own. Akers was attended to on the sidelines and then led to the locker room for additional evaluation. He will not be allowed to play the rest of the way.

Jaren Hall, their starting quarterback, suffered a concussion first. Then, KJ Osborn had a concussion of his own, forcing him to exit the game. Running back Cam Akers was removed from the field on a cart and it appears that he injured his ankle.

Throughout the entire game, Akers and fellow running back Alexander Mattison have been trading touches. However, Akers has been the more effective option on the ground, gaining 25 yards on eight runs as opposed to Mattison’s 26 yards on twelve.

With Akers out, Mattison will be responsible for the majority of the groundwork. It should be mentioned that Akers was the backup quarterback for today, thus Minnesota will be in a tough situation if Josh Dobbs is sidelined for the duration of the game.

Akers missed the whole 2021 season after suffering a serious setback in the Rams’ season opener due to a torn Achilles tendon. Unfazed, he recovered well in 2022, scoring three touchdowns and gaining 575 rushing yards. He was traded to the Vikings in June 2023.
