Celia Gofton is the proud mother of the media personality, Lauren Laverne. She was a teacher by profession.
In 2006, Celia Gofton became a councillor for the Pallion ward in the City of Sunderland by-election. In 2008, she was defeated by Julie Elliot when she wanted to be nominated as the Labour Party candidate in the Sunderland Central constituency. In the 2010 general election, Julie Elliot won the seat.
Celia Gofton was married to Dr. Leslie Gofton, who was a Sociology lecturer at Newcastle University. They had only Lauren Laverne.
Celia Gofton passed away unexpectedly in June 2022. Lauren was at Glastonbury Festival giving a presentation. She later gave a heartwarming tribute to her mother on Instagram.
Gofton was also survived by two grandchildren from Lauren.

Lauren Laverne announced that she was pregnant on her BBC Radio 6 Music show on 30 March 2010. In September 2010, she gave birth and that was Mack Fisher.
Fergus James Fisher is the first child of Lauren Laverne and Graeme Fisher. He was born in October 2007.
