Eventually, she became the longest-serving monarch of the United Kingdom.

In November 1947, Queen Elizabeth wed Prince Philip, her third cousin. Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward were the couple’s four children.

Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Zara Tindall, Prince William, and Princess Beatrice are only a few of Her Majesty’s eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Challenges Queen Elizabeth II faced

During the 70 years and more reigns of the late Queen Elizabeth II faced several challenges including the divorces of three of her four children, the passing of her ex-daughter-in-law Diana, and a sex scandal involving her son Prince Andrew were just a few of her personal low points.

Late in her reign, Prince Harry, her grandson, moved to California with his American wife, Meghan Markle, leaving his family and England behind.
