Charla Nash Face Reveal After Getting Attacked By Chimpanzee

Charla Nash revealed her face after getting attacked by Chimpanzee to the public via NBC’s Today show in 2011. The photos were then released and circulated by the team.

In 2009, Charla was viciously attacked by her friend’s pet chimp, Travis, who weighed more than 200 pounds. Her hands, eyelids, nose, and lips were completely ripped off from her body.

By the time the rescue team responded to the scene, there was very little left of her face. Her eyes were also permanently damaged by the attack.

Charla underwent a hand and face transplant two years later after being deemed a suitable candidate.

While the hand transplant was initially successful, she later developed pneumonia and other infections and had to have them removed.

Charla now has a new face and is slowly trying to rebuild some of her life. She has spent the years since the horrific attack working tirelessly on facial exercises so she can one day smile again.

Charla expressed excitement at the prospect of being able to “kiss and hug loved ones”. And expressed gratitude to the doctors at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Massachusetts, where the 20-hour operation was performed.

Unfortunately in 2016, she was admitted to the hospital after doctors discovered her body was rejecting her face transplant.

Charla was weaning herself off anti-rejection drugs as part of a military-funded study. The study was conducted to see if patients who receive arm, hand, leg, or face transplants can safely wean themselves off the medications.

As the medication is found to have serious side effects such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

However, the doctor assure her that the body will accept the transplanted face after she continues her medications.

Where Is Charla Nash Now 2022?

Charla Nash is currently living on her own in a small apartment near Brigham and Women’s. She stated that in an interview with Today.com., she has an aide who assists her Monday through Friday.

However, she chose to manage on her own on weekends, which is very important to her.

She explains that she can touch her skin, but her hands prevent her from feeling anything. But she knows what they’re up against.

“I’ve always been self-sufficient,” she explained. “So all I wanted to do was go back to what I had.” And as for assistance, I have exactly what I require.”

Charla is able to leave the house with the assistance of a disabled transportation service. That is extremely important to her.

“You almost feel like you’re normal,” she said. “You feel like you’re a human being again.” Nash, ever the fighter, refuses to accept limitations. She’s set a new goal for herself.

Charla expresses that she’d like to ride horses again. “I don’t want to just sit here.” “I’d like to ride.”

We wish her a soon recovery and with such a fighting spirit we are sure that she will be able to do so in no time.

Charla Nash Before Surgery

Charla Nash’s before-surgery picture is horrifying to look at. The unbearable accident has left her with no eyes and only a small opening where her mouth used to be.

In February 2009, she was attacked for 12 minutes by a friend’s 95 kg pet chimp named Travis. It was after the animal’s owner asked Nash to help bring it back inside her Connecticut home.

Her friend, Sandra picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed her pet chimp in a desperate attempt to save her friend. When help arrived, Travis approached the police car, tried to open the door, and bared his bloody fangs before being shot dead by officers.

Charla’s facial bones were broken, and doctors had to reattach her jaw. It was a horrifying sight when emergency personnel discovered Charla.

The frenzied attack had left her with such severe wounds that she had lost half of her blood and was completely unrecognizable.

Charla was rushed into surgery, where she underwent a seven-hour procedure.

It was revealed that Charla’s injuries were so severe that the hospital staff who treated her needed counseling.
