Christopher James Kreider (born April 30, 1991) is an American professional ice hockey winger who plays for the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League as an alternate captain (NHL).

Kreider, who was born in Boston’s Charlestown neighbourhood, previously played NCAA ice hockey at Boston College.

He is the Rangers’ longest-tenured player, having been taken in the first round, 19th overall, in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

He’s known as “The Human Eclipse” because of his size and ability to set screens on goaltenders.

He holds the NHL record with five Stanley Cup playoff goals before playing his first NHL regular-season game. He became the fourth New York Ranger in history to record 50 goals in a single season in 2022.

Kreider attended Masconomet Regional High School and later Phillips Academy, an Andover, Massachusetts preparatory school.

Kreider was nominated to the 2010 Hockey East All-Rookie Team He scored a goal in the 2010 NCAA final game, in which Boston College defeated the University of Wisconsin to win the national championship.

Boston College won the Beanpot Tournament for the second consecutive year, and Kreider was selected Most Valuable Player.

In addition, he was named to the senior United States national team for the 2011 IIHF World Championship in Slovakia.
