Christian Covington, a Canadian-born defensive tackle, is a member of the Detroit Lions of the National Football League. He was born on October 16, 1993, in Vancouver, Canada. After playing NCAA football at Rice, the Houston Texans drafted him in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Rice College provided Covington with a football scholarship. He appeared in 12 games as a redshirt freshman in 2011. He has eight sacks, five quarterback pressures, 20 unlucky tackles, one pass separation, and one constrained mishandle to his credit with 43 tackles.
In 2013, he was picked to start at nose tackle and was named to the C-USA’s primary group as a sophomore.
The Houston Texans selected Covington in the sixth round (216th overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft. The BC Lions also selected him in the fifth round (43rd overall) of the 2015 CFL Draft.
Covington inked a contract with the Los Angeles Chargers on May 11, 2021. On May 10, 2023, Covington signed a contract with the Detroit Lions.
