Colin Blakemore is a neuroscientist who has made contributions to our knowledge of vision, brain development, and the aetiology of Huntington’s disease, a hereditary neurodegenerative ailment.
One of the first to show the value of neural “plasticity,” or the ability of brain cells to rearrange themselves in response to their environment, even beyond birth and into adulthood, was Colin.
Colin is well recognized for his fervent support of the value of public participation, especially in regard to the exploitation of animals in research.
In 2014, he was awarded a knighthood for his contributions to scientific research, policy, and outreach. He has held a number of significant posts, including that of the head of the Medical Research Council.
