Collin Johnson attended Valley Christian in San Jose for his secondary education and is the son of College Football Hall of Fame cornerback Johnnie Johnson. Due to physical issues, Johnson the tallest wide receiver in the NFL since 2020 was unable to fully compete in either of his sophomore or senior years at Valley Christian.
Before electing to play collegiate football at Texas, he managed to surpass 1,100 yards as a senior despite receiving offers from USC, Arizona State, Utah, Rutgers, Cal, and TCU.
