Colm Murphy was born in Northern Ireland, specifically in Belleeks, County Armagh on 18 August 1952. According to sources, since Murphy was a teenager, he was a paramilitary.

Colm Murphy has been very well known to be involved in the Omagh Bombing. The famous Omagh Bombing was a car bombing incident that occurred on 15 August 1998 in Omagh by the Real Irish Republican Army which claimed the lives of 29 people. Murphy was first taken by the police in February 1999 for questioning.

Colm Murphy was convicted together with Michael McKevitt, Liam Campbell and Seamus Daly for the Omagh Bombing. However, Murphy, who was the first to be convicted was later released upon an appeal. In the year 2010, Murphy was cleared of all criminal charges.

Colm Murphy was said to have battled degenerative lung disease which caused his death on 18 April 2023. Murphy passed away at the age of seventy (70) years old. There is nothing known about Murphy’s family at the moment.
