Constantine “Cus” D’Amato, who died on November 4, 1985, was an Italian-American boxing manager and trainer who managed the careers of Mike Tyson, Floyd Patterson, and José Torres, all of whom were inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Teddy Atlas and Kevin Rooney are also successful boxing trainers who trained with D’Amato.
Cus D’Amato believed in the peek-a-boo boxing method, in which the fighter pulls his arms snugly against his torso while keeping his gloves close to his cheeks. Some condemned this strategy because they believed it prohibited an effective attack from being launched from it.

Cus D’amato Wife: Who Is Camille Ewald?

Cus D’Amato and Camille Ewald originally met in the 1940s and eventually married. In the early 1960s, the combatants became family, and her house became their home. Ewald supported D’Amato in his commitment to training socially challenged children and regularly functioned as a mother figure to them, in addition to enabling her home to serve as a halfway house for D’Amato’s students.

Most notably, D’Amato and Ewald established Mike Tyson’s formal guardianship over the young man in order to protect him from the competitive boxing establishment, both physically and financially, in anticipation of his future athletic excellence. Ewald and D’Amato never married, although they remained close friends for many years after his death.

Cus was in charge of the fighters’ training and management, while Camille Ewald was in charge of cooking and housework.
