The Dallas Cowboys blocked a field goal attempt by the New York Giants in a season opener and returned it for a touchdown in the first quarter of Sunday’s game.

The Giants faced difficulty when Andrew Thomas was called for a false start on third-and-two from the Dallas 8-yard line. The difficulty was increased when Daniel Jones, the quarterback, missed a low snap from rookie center John Michael Schmitz Jr.

Just before Micah Parsons made contact, Jones was able to recover the fumble, although at the cost of a big 14-yard loss. Graham Gano was asked to kick a 45-yard field goal in an effort to save the play. Juanyeh Thomas, though, successfully foiled the attempt with a spectacular leap over the line. Noah Igbinoghene, a recent Dolphins trade acquisition, was quick to react and snatched up the errant pass before sprinting 58 yards for a touchdown.

Brandon Aubrey, a rookie kicker for the Cowboys, struggled on the subsequent extra point attempt, shooting it wide left despite this thrilling play. Dallas started the game with a 6-0 advantage, and the game went through several changes in momentum.
