Damar Hamlin passed out after tackling wide receiver Tee Higgins on January 2, 2023, during a Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17. Within seconds, team trainers and paramedics arrived at his side while he was still.
The majority of the players from both teams then came off the sidelines to kneel or stand around Hamlin as he was placed on a stretcher and an ambulance arrived on the field. First responders started performing CPR and giving Hamlin defibrillation on the field for ten minutes.
Oxygen and an intravenous solution were given to Hamlin, and he was taken to the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center, at around 9:25 p.m., where he was described as being in critical condition after experiencing a cardiac arrest.
