Nevertheless, he accepted a scholarship offer to play at Weber State, an organization in the Big Sky Conference located in Ogden, Utah. When head coach Randy Rahe personally attended Lillard’s junior year of high school game in Texas, Lillard claims that Weber State was the first college basketball program to express any interest in him. Lillard wanted to move away from his dangerous Oakland area, so he decided to attend Weber State in Utah.
Lillard was selected the Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year and first-team All-Big Sky in his debut season at Weber State, averaging 11.5 points per contest. He increased his scoring average to 19.9 points per game in his sophomore season, helping the Wildcats win the conference title.
