Dan Campbell was born Daniel Alen Campbell in Clifton, Texas, on April 13, 1976. Dan Campbell has yet to say anything about his parents or his childhood. Dan attended Texas A&M University after graduating from Glen Rose High School. Campbell is 6 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 120 kilograms.

Dan entered the 1999 NFL draft after receiving his degree in late 1998. Dan was selected by the New York Giants with the 79th overall pick in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft. Dan committed to the team in a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract. Campbell was a starter in four games and a member of the 2000 squad that competed in Super Bowl XXXV. In 2002, when his contract was up, Dan transferred to the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys and the player agreed to a three-year contract. Dan had a bad time with the club and was traded to the Detroit Lions in 2006. Dan was placed on injured reserve the following season. In February 2009, the player was traded to the New Orleans Saints. Campbell was a member of the Super Bowl XLIV winning team, but Dan did not receive the ring because Dan spent the season on injured reserve. Campbell announced his retirement in 2009 and began working as a coaching intern for the Miami Dolphins.
