The convicted murderer Danelo Cavalcante has been captured after an almost two-week-long manhunt after he managed to escape from Pennsylvania prison.

The police confirmed early on Wednesday that the convicted murderer had been taken into custody. “A press conference announcing details of THE CAPTURE of Danelo Cavalcante is scheduled for 9:30 am at the Po-Mar-Lin Fire company, 36 Firehouse Drive, Kennett Square, PA,” Pennsylvania State Police said in a social media post.

Cavalcante escaped Chester County Prison on August 31. Just days before his escape, he was sentenced to life for stabbing his ex-girlfriend Deborah Brandao, 33, to death. Previously, he was also wanted for a 2017 murder in Brazil. Prosecutors believe he killed Brandao after she learned of the murder he conducted in Brazil and threatened to go to authorities.

A desperate manhunt was launched by the state authorities after Cavalcante’s escape. However, he managed to successfully evade authorities and also changed his appearance while on the run for days. On Tuesday, officials revealed that he had broken into a garage and stolen a firearm and was to be considered “armed and extremely dangerous.”

The 34-year-old successfully stole a “.22-caliber rifle with scope and flashlight attached” late Monday from a garage in East Nantmeal Township, despite the homeowner firing at him, according to Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens.

Cavalcante also stole ammunition that “was with the firearm,” he said. “He is considered armed and extremely dangerous,” Bivens stressed. “We have always considered him to be a risk. We just now absolutely know that he has a weapon. He’s killed two people before.” He added that there always remains a risk that he might kill again.

Cavalcante is an undocumented immigrant who entered the country illegally. It was only after he was wanted for murder in Chester County that authorities learned he was also wanted in connection to a murder outside of the US.
