Darwyn Encarnacion, a former top prospect who sadly died at the age of 21, stunned baseball fans.
On Thursday, Encarnacion, a former top prospect in the New York Mets organization, died in a car accident in the Dominican Republic.
Encarnacion was driving an SUV that went off the road and smashed into a bridge near La Vega, according to MLB insider Hector Gomez.
The baseball player later died in a local hospital.
According to a video released on social media, residents gathered around Encarnacion’s car’s wrecked wreckage.
“After hitting into nothingness, Darwyn Encarnacion’s SUV was entirely ruined. “Peace be with you,” Gomez wrote on Twitter.
The outfielder made 35 appearances for the Mets’ Dominican Summer League team in 2019.
He had a.248 batting average,.651 OPS, one home run, and 10 stolen bases in 129 plate appearances.

He was released the following year. “He was a wonderful human being, highly disciplined, courteous, and nice,” a Mets school executive in the Dominican Republic stated.
