According to MLB insider Hector Gomez, Encarnacion was driving an SUV in the Dominican Republic on Wednesday and apparently crashed it off a bridge.
He survived the original incident but died later from his injuries at a local hospital.
A terrifying video of the car following the crash was provided by local news outlet El Nuevo Diario, which Gomez shared in a follow-up tweet.
“He was a lovely young man, well-mannered, respectful, and courteous.” He was only with us for a year in 2019.
When he signed up, he even filed for and won a Mets scholarship, and he is currently enrolled in college,” a Mets representative in the Dominican Republic informed Gomez.
