David Holford, a middle-order batsman, and leg-spinner was born on April 16, 1940, in Upper Collymore Rock, Saint Michael, Barbados.

 

From 1966 to 1977, David Anthony Jerome Holford represented West Indies in 24 Test matches. He was Garry Sobers’ cousin.

 

After graduating from Harrison College and joining the Spartan Club, Holford had a successful career as an allrounder. He was the first player to score 1000 runs and take 100 wickets in the Shell Shield.

 

He appeared in 24 Test matches for the West Indies between 1966 and 1977, scoring 768 runs and capturing 51 wickets.

 

His only century came in a match-saving partnership with cousin Garry Sobers at Lords in 1966, when he bowled an unbroken 105. (now National Hero Sir Garfield Sobers).
