Alistair and Heather James welcomed James into the world on October 1st, 1981 in London. London is where English journalist, educator, podcast broadcaster, and champion for good causes was Dame Deborah Anne James DBE.

On June 28, 2022, she passed away. She was given the tragic bowel cancer diagnosis in 2016 and went on to discuss her battles with the disease in the podcast You, Me and the Big C on BBC Radio 5 Live.

She attended Chertsey’s Salesian School before enrolling at the University of Exeter to study economics. Her mother was a gymnastics coach at the Woking Gymnastics Club, where James received his training.

When she was just nine years old, she began training 30 hours a week. James married Sebastien Bowen in 2008, and the two became parents to two kids.

James, who died of cancer on June 28, 2022, at the age of 40, spent her final days at her parent’s house in Woking, Surrey.

According to her fundraising website bowelbabe.org, which had almost £7 million in funds at the time of her death, in order to “back initiatives to improve awareness of bowel cancer and funding clinical trials and research into individualized treatment for cancer patients.

“Her final words were, “Find a life worth living, take risks, love sincerely, have no regrets, and always, always have rebellious hope.”
