Deep Oceans are an ocean biome that was added to Minecraft in v1.7. They are quite similar to regular ocean biomes but have several unique features. The ocean bed is covered with gravel blocks instead of sand and clay, and as the name implies, they are much deeper than regular oceans.

Description

Deep oceans are a variant of oceans that generate in areas with very low continental mass values. Their depth is around 30 blocks, which is twice as deep as regular oceans. The ocean bed is mostly made out of gravel blocks. The increased depth of the ocean allows structures such as monuments, shipwrecks, and ocean ruins to spawn more frequently. You can find plenty of underwater caves, ravines, and trenches here. Vegetation blocks such as seagrass and kelp can be found growing in deep oceans.

Mob Spawns

In the deep oceans, mobs such as squids, cod, dolphins, and glow squids can be found quite commonly. Since the water is not too cold or warm, players will not find salmon and tropical fish in deep oceans.
