As the host and executive producer of Video News Live, a weekly live cable access news program, Derek James began his media career in Waupaca, Wisconsin, at the age of 15. He is now a television personality, meteorologist, radio host, and writer. Soon after, he was hired by WDUX AM/FM in Waupaca, Wisconsin, to work as their radio news anchor.

While still a sophomore in high school, Derek James earned widespread attention for his coverage of a propane railway tanker derailment/fire and an 18-day evacuation of residents in the nearby town of Weyauwega in 1996.

Derek James currently hosts “WCCB News Rising,” a 4-hour morning news and entertainment program on the Charlotte CW affiliate. In addition to his various roles, Derek James is also the creator, producer, and host of the daily pop culture segment “The Snark Report.”
