Larry Fitzgerald was one of the greatest wide receivers in college during his time at Pitt. In 2003, he was a Heisman Trophy semifinalist with 92 catches, 1,622 yards, and 22 touchdowns, placing him on the verge of joining Hall of Fame running back Tony Dorsett as the program’s only Heisman winner.

Two quarterbacks were also nominated for the award: Jason White of Oklahoma and Eli Manning of Ole Miss. White won the award after a season in which he passed for 3,846 yards and 40 touchdowns.

Manning, of course, went on to have a successful NFL career, whereas White never made it in the league. Fitzgerald and Manning sat down for an interview on the latter’s ESPN+ series, “Eli’s Places,” where Fitzgerald shared his first thoughts when the two met at the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York.
