Bowral, a town in New South Wales Southern Highlands, is where John Kerin was born in 1945. The man’s father is Jim Kerin, a former Labor Party official and premier of South Australia who served in that position from 1979 to 1982.

Former Australian politician John Kerin held a number of ministerial positions within the Australian government while serving in the House of Representatives.

Growing up in a rural region, Kerin attended both Hurlstone Agricultural High School and Bowral High School. After joining the Labor Party as a student, Kerin was selected to represent the Macarthur constituency in the House of Representatives in 1972.

He was chosen to join the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization’s board in October 2008. He was named Chair of the Crawford Fund in October 2010, which aims to boost Australia’s participation in global agricultural research, development, and education. He left the ALP’s NSW chapter in 2011 because he didn’t like how the party’s leadership was being more and more centralized, in his opinion.
