In Deportes Quindo’s youth division, Chará began his professional career. He was promoted to the senior team in 2004 and started making a significant contribution to Quindo.
While playing for Quindo, the gifted midfielder scored twice in 124 league appearances. Due to his talent, he started to get the attention of the best clubs in Colombia, and in 2009 he joined América de Cali. Chará played in 31 league games for America in a single season, recording 1 goal.
The next year, Chará assisted Tolima in earning a spot in the 2011 Copa Libertadores.
