Since winning The Ultimate Fighter 5 in 2011, he has competed in the UFC. With 15 total UFC bonus awards, Diaz and Joe Lauzon share third place.
Diaz is the younger brother of Nick Diaz, a former welterweight champion of Strikeforce, the WEC, and the IFC.
At the age of 17, Diaz engaged in a bare-knuckle MMA match against Robert Limon on July 20, 2002, before beginning his professional MMA career. Since then, footage of the battle has surfaced, and it’s thought to be his first exposure to competition.
When Diaz made his official MMA debut, he mostly participated in World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC). He competed against Hermes França, the current WEC Lightweight Champion, at WEC 24 in 2006, but was defeated via submission in the second round.
This was the final competition the WEC hosted before being bought out by Zuffa, LLC, the UFC’s parent corporation at the time.

Their mother Melissa raised them primarily because their father wasn’t always present.
