The love story in Netflix’s “Purple Hearts” has a broken premise. The girl requires medical attention, Marine needs BAH to pay off an old heroin dealer after meeting the girl. What do they then do? The day before he leaves for Iraq gets married after three quick discussions and divides the money.
Working in a bar, Cassie is a failing singer who occasionally gets to see her band play one song every Friday. She has Type I diabetes, but she cannot afford health insurance due to her artistic endeavors. In contrast, Luke is a recovering addict. To start over and win his father’s respect, he enlisted in the Marines, but he still owes his previous dealer a sizable quantity of money.
She first approaches a longtime buddy who has since joined the military as a Marine, but he declines because he already has a partner. Luke, his roommate, is here. And even if their courtroom wedding is a fraud, their culmination at the base hotel is unquestionably real.
