Janja has been known to be a professor emerita of sociology which is at California State University, Chico. Janja was born in the year 1945 and she is known to be the daughter of a Serbian immigrant.

Janja attended Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California, and was able to graduate with Ph.D. in Human and Organizational Systems.

Lalich was with some group called radical Marxist-Leninist and also the Democratic Workers Party which is in California but she later found out that they are a cult group.

Since she was in the group for a long, she was later given a high-ranking position and he was afraid to leave the group because of what happened to some of the group members when they left it made her feel threatened and later the group collapsed that was when she was able to leave.
