The Washington Post editor Christopher Shea passed away on July 24 at a local hospital. He was known for assigning and editing news pieces and analyses for the Outlook column in print and the PostEverything section online.

He was a 53-year-old Silver Spring, Maryland resident. Nancy O’Driscoll, his sister, claimed he suffered from depression and committed suicide.

According to his sister, Mr. Shea was an academic who was intrigued by books and ideas but was less enthusiastic about the idea of doing typical beat reporting.

After managing the Perspectives section of Vox.com in Washington for a year and working earlier in his career as a contributor to the Boston Globe and Wall Street Journal’s opinion and reviews sections, he joined The Post in 2018.

He assigned and edited hundreds of articles for The Post that were a reflection of his ravenous interest in politics, social science, and popular culture.
