With his four siblings, Escobar grew up in Palo Negro’s La Pica neighborhood in the Venezuelan state of Aragua. Their only parent raised them. Escobar started working at age seven and was only able to complete the eighth grade of his education.
Escobar was called up in September 2011 and played in nine games with two hits in seven at-bats. Escobar, a utility infielder, was added to the 25-man roster in 2012 right out of spring training.
