Elizabeth Dekkers began competitive swimming at the age of ten with the Newmarket Racers Swimming Club, where she continues to train under the direction of Bob and Steve Miller, a father-son coaching duo.
As a young athlete, Lizzy excelled in a variety of sports, including swimming at the National School level, but she also represented Queensland in water polo.
Lizzy began swimming the gruelling 200m Butterfly at the age of 12 and has never been defeated in her age group in Australia.
Lizzy elected to pursue swimming full-time in 2019, with an eye on Junior National selection and was rewarded with selection on the Junior Australia Team at the age of 14.
At the Junior World Championships in Budapest, she was the team’s youngest member, finishing fifth in the 200 Butterfly.
Despite her youth, Lizzy has successfully transitioned to the Senior divisions, winning her first Open Queensland title in 2021 and a silver medal in the 200m Butterfly at the National Open Championships the following year.
For the past 15 and 16 years, she has held the Australian and Australian All-Comers records in the 200m Butterfly, and we hope to see her represent Australia in the next years.
