Emily Louise van Egmond, is an Australian professional soccer player, who helped her team win the 2010 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, and also known for scoring a goal to give Australia a 2-1 lead over Equatorial Guinea during the 2011 World Cup in Germany, when she was 17 years old. Emily was born on July 12, 1993, and currently plays as midfield for San Diego Wave FC and the Australia women’s national team.

Van Egmond, who was born and raised in Australia’s Newcastle, started playing football when she was five years old. She is known to be the daughter of Gary van Egmond, who is a former Socceroo and Newcastle United Jets A-League coach.

She was chosen for the Matildas, who qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. She took part in each of the five qualification games. With one victory and one tie during group play, the Matildas made it to the quarterfinals.

After extra time, they defeated Great Britain 4-3 in the quarterfinals. However, they fell to Sweden 1-0 in the semifinals and subsequently fell to the USA 4-3 in the bronze medal game.
