One of the club’s “most decorated, loyal, and cherished club members” was recognized as the Westmeath native.

Mulvihill won six Westmeath county championships and a 2011 Leinster Club Championship during his playing career with Garrycastle.

They are the only club side from the county to have won a senior provincial championship, however, they were defeated by Crossmaglen in the All Ireland final after a replay.

In a Facebook statement, the Garrycastle GAA club said: “It is with great sorrow and regret that we announce the demise of Enda Mulvihill, one of our most cherished, devoted, and valued club members, following a brief illness.

“The club’s previous captain, Enda, was a well-known leader.

“Enda, who joined our club in 1987 at the age of just 10, played a significant role in most of the youth team’s successes.

“At the senior level, Enda won seven County Medals.

We will never forget his assistance in 2011 when we defeated St. Brigids to claim the Leinster Club Championship.

“Enda competed for Westmeath as well, winning the u21 All Ireland title in 1999.
