Fidel Escobar Mendieta, is a Panamanian football player, who plays for both Panama’s national team and Liga FPD club Saprissa as a centre-back, and he was born on January 9, 1995.
He completed the youth programme in San Francisco, and made his senior debut at the age of 18 years, during the 2012–13 season. He became a first-team regular the following year, making 14 starts and contributing one goal. Escobar netted his first goal for Los Monjes, in a 2-0 victory over Chorrillo on October 26, 2013.
Escobar caught the attention of the European clubs, due to his remarkable performances with his club and at the Under-20 World Cup.
He was transferred to Sporting B, the reserve team of Sporting Clube de Portugal, on loan with the possibility of purchase in July 2016.
However, he made his Sporting B debut on August 6, 2016, participating in the entire 1-2 loss against Portimonense S.C. game.
In January 2017, Escobar attempted to sever his relationship with Sporting in order to pursue other chances, but the Portuguese team threatened legal action. He was later reinstated for the remaining season after offering the team an apology.
