William Nightingale, also referred to as W.E.N., was born William Edward Shore on February 15, 1794, in Lea, Derbyshire. His father was William Shore (1752-1822). Mary, née Evans, his mother, passed away at Tapton House in Sheffield and lived from 1760 to 1853.

She was the niece of one Peter Nightingale, a businessman in the lead mining industry, whose will provided for William Shore to inherit the Lea Hall estate in Derbyshire as well as take on the name and crest of Nightingale in 1815.

In 1828, he was chosen as Hampshire’s sheriff. He had two sisters named Anne and Mary. Frances Nightingale is the name of Florence Nightin’s mother, but there isn’t much about her on the internet.
