Frank Donald Drake was an American astronomer and astrophysicist who lived from May 28, 1930, to September 2, 2022. The Arecibo Message, which is a digitally encoded description of the Earth and its lifeforms for transmission into space, was created by him. He was also a key scientist in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence, including the founding of SETI, mounting the first observational attempts to detect extraterrestrial communications in 1960 in Project Ozma, developing the Drake equation, and mounting the first observational attempts to detect extraterrestrial communications in 1970 in Project X.
Frank Drake Children: Nadia Drake
Is the only child of his father, Frank Drake. She is a journalist for science and a National Geographic contributor. She graduated from Cornell University with a B.A. in biology and a B.S. in psychology and dance. She then worked in a clinical genetics lab at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine before going back to Cornell to complete her PhD in genetics and development and a 2011 graduate of the Science Communications department at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
