In Gabrielle Beaumont’s five-decade career, a British director who pioneered the way for women in Hollywood by directing episodes of shows like M*A*S*H, The Waltons, Hill Street Blues, and Dynasty, passed away. She was 80. Beaumont passed away peacefully on October 8 at her home in Fornalutx, Mallorca, Spain, according to news released on Wednesday by her brother, actor-producer Christopher Toyne.

In addition to many other shows, the Emmy-nominated Beaumont, one of the most prolific female directors in the history of primetime television, also worked on episodes of Knots Landing, The Dukes of Hazzard, Miami Vice, Cagney & Lacey, Doogie Howser, M.D., L.A. Law, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Law & Order, and three Star Trek series. Beaumont came to Hollywood looking for work after her British horror movie The Godsend (1980) debuted here. She met Aaron Spelling and brought two cans of films she had worked on.
