The Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (ICIM) and the NPP Government must be awarded and given some applauds for their firm stand in fighting against Galamsey few years after they came to power.

Though they were faced with a lot of obstacles from the onset, their resilience coupled with positive thoughts for Ghana made them to stand their grounds.

Ankobra River located at Ankobra, a community in the Ellebelle District of the western Region was badly polluted as a result activities of illegal miners and that rendered their only source of water (Ankobra River) unsaved for drinking.

Natives of Ankobra are currently full of joy with many thanking God for a restoration of their only source of water few years after the Galamseyers along the river were chased out.

The river now is very clean, formally it was too dirty in terms of people (Illegal Miners) working at the top, now they stopped working at the top so the water is clean, Ghana water company can now give us some clean water to drink. – A native noted.

Secretary to the inter-ministerial committee on illegal mining, Mr. Charles Bissue when contacted indicated, some other major water bodies in the country will soon witness similar achievements.
