Giles is known to be a farmer who owns a farm near Salem, Giles is an old man and somewhat of a rascal, but also very brave and moral at heart. In his many years he’s been involved in numerous court cases and lawsuits, and therefore knows the law inside and out. He is married to Martha Corey.

He was known also to be a noble and good personality from the initial stage. Giles was a component of the “Crucible” tale, a dramatized and partially made-up account of the Salem witch trials that took place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1692–1693 and were featured in the play. Miller created the play as a parable for the McCarthy era, during which the American government punished those who were thought to be communists.

John Proctor, George Burroughs, George Jacobs Sr., John Willard, and Samuel Wardwell were all hanged after being convicted of witchcraft, while Giles Corey was pressed to death with stones for refusing to “put himself on the country,” that is, to allow himself to be put on trial.

Giles Corey’s height and weight

His height is 6 inches, 3 meters tall while Giles was asked to make a plea after two days of this torture during which he had maintained silence and had not sobbed. Giles never made a request since he did not want his property stolen. He was pressed to death on the third day, September 19, 1692. More weight was his final words.
