Dr. Giovanni Quintella Bezerra, an anesthesiologist, is employed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Rumour has it that a Brazilian anaesthetist committed five other similar crimes in addition to raping a woman when she was unconscious for a C-section.
After two C-sections that day, nurses in Rio de Janeiro grew suspicious of Giovanni Quintella Bezerra, 32, and secretly recorded him during a third, reportedly showing him abusing the patient. Bezerra was arrested on July 10.
At least six women have reportedly come forward to publicly accuse him of abusing them, according to the police, who were already looking into whether the first two patients were attacked.
Bezerra made his initial appearance in court on Tuesday, and the judge decided that he must be kept segregated throughout the investigation.
He was held in the largest prison complex in Brazil west of Rio, Bangu, which houses some of the most violent and deadly criminals. When he arrived last night, inmates taunted him and banged on the bars of his cell.
It was also discovered that Bezerra is a defendant in a medical malpractice case from 2018 when he was employed by a different hospital and did not possess a license as an anesthesiologist.
Bezerra and another doctor are accused of putting a female patient in a coma for 23 days by misdiagnosing her swine flu as a urinary tract infection.
