Irene Bernasconi was an Argentine marine scientist who specialized in the study of echinoderms. She is most well-known for her work in the Antarctic, where she conducted her studies.

She was the first person in Argentina to specialize in echinoderms, and she devoted most of her life to performing studies on the echinoderms that may be found in the Argentine Sea.

Throughout the course of her career, Bernasconi discovered a number of new genera and species of sea stars, in addition to adding a number of families of sea stars to the taxonomy.

There are several different families of sea stars, including the Odontoceridae, Pterasteridae, Luidiidae, Ganeriidae, Gonisasteridae, Echinasteridae, and Asterinidae families.

Google Doodle: Who Was Irene Bernasconi?

Irene Bernasconi, a marine scientist from Argentina, was honoured with a Google Doodle today in recognition of her efforts. On this day in 1968, Bernasconi became the first woman from Argentina to lead an expedition to Antarctica for the study of marine biology.
