Hans Modrow, a German politician, served as the final communist East German premier. He took office in the midst of the Peaceful Revolution, and he was the country’s de facto leader for the majority of the winters of 1989 and 1990.
Modrow, who is recognized as playing a crucial role in the transition since he appointed a number of opposition MPs to his cabinet, making it possible for the first and only free elections to take place in East Germany.
