Carignan visited his aunt and uncle in Minnesota and North Dakota before moving back in with his mother when he was ten years old. In a Mandan, North Dakota reform school, it was determined that he had a history of bedwetting, chorea from his early years, and enuresis.
Although he was a soldier in the American Army, he had already been found guilty of rape and murder in Anchorage, Alaska.
Harvey Louis Carignan, an American serial murderer, was sentenced to life in prison for the deaths of two women at the Minnesota Correctional Institution Faribault.
On September 24, 1974, Carignan was taken into custody. He was accused of aggravated sodomy and attempted murder.
Carignan said that he had received a command from God to “murder whores and harlots,” and that this was why he was acting so bizarrely. As his defence fell short in 1975, he was found guilty of both charges.
