He led Eastmoor to the Columbus City League victory that year, rushing for 267 yards on 31 rushes in the championship game against Linden-McKinley High School.
Griffin signed with Ohio State and started as a tailback for four years, guiding the Buckeyes to a 40-5-1 record and four Big Ten championships between 1972 and 1975.
Griffin was the only player in history to start four consecutive Rose Bowls and was a three-time first-team All-American.
