Hideki Kamiya (born December 19, 1970) is a former Capcom and “Clover Studio” video game creator. He is presently working at Platinum Games alongside former Clover Studio colleagues.

Kamiya applied for jobs at numerous game studios after graduating from college. SEGA turned him down, but Namco approved his application. Namco, on the other hand, wanted him to be an artist rather than a game creator.

In 1994, Kamiya joined Capcom as a designer. At the age of 23, he was the planner of the original Resident Evil and the director of Resident Evil 2. He also wrote Resident Evil 2, albeit his script was completely rewritten by FLAGSHIP. He went on to direct Devil May Cry and the original Viewtiful Joe. Kamiya was the director of Clover Studio’s kami for the PlayStation 2 in 2006.

Kamiya formed a new firm with former Capcom colleagues such as Atsushi Inaba and Shinji Mikami soon before Capcom dissolved Clover Studio in late 2006.

This new business, eventually dubbed PlatinumGames, announced a three-game contract with SEGA. Bayonetta, an original game by Kamiya, was included in the agreement.

As a game creator, Kamiya says the titles The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Gradius have influenced him the most. The original Castlevania is his favourite action game.

Kamiya was responsible for giving the character Joseph Frost the name “Joseph,” which was inspired by “Joseph Joestar” from the Japanese comic Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure.

Hideki has also claimed responsibility for the idea of Brad Vickers returning as a zombie in Resident Evil 2, as well as the development of character qualities in that game. One specific example is the concept of Elza Walker/Claire Redfield being a biker.
