Kenneth Wilberforce Zonto Bossman popularly known as Black Prophet in an interview has said the highlife genre is not authentically Ghanaian.

Speaking to Berla Mundi on TV3’s New Day the reggae artiste went on to state that Ghanaians must discover their version of highlife and promote it:

” Highlife came about when Ghanains began saying ‘Y3nko nko b) highlife’. It was the poor blacks going to play songs for the rich whites living the “high life”. Highlife is not our music. Our music is kpanlogo, agbadza, fume fume, among others.” Black Prophet explained

” If we want to talk about our authentic music, then we are talking about the music that our forefathers used to play. And that is not highlife.” He further noted

Black Prophet whose recent album was considered for the Grammy Awards has worked and collaborated with various international reggae artistes including Rita Marley, Pliers, Lucky Dube, Alpha Blonde, Buju Banton among others.
