Dragon is a television series based on George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels. A prequel to Game of Thrones is called House of the Dragon.

Martin and Ryan Condal created the HBO prequel series, which is loosely based on Fire & Blood. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik are the executive producers of the House of the Dragon.

The drama, which takes place roughly 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, depicts the beginning and end of House Targaryen as well as the events leading up to and covering the “Dance of the Dragons” succession war (172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen).

A potential spin-off series would be heavily based on the content of Fire & Blood, according to A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Martin, who stated this in November 2018.

On the verge of receiving a pilot order from HBO in September 2019, Martin and Ryan Condal’s Game of Thrones prequel series, which “tracks the beginning of the end for House Targaryen,” was already in production. The following month, House of the Dragon, an adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, was ordered straight to series.

Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, who received an Emmy for directing the episode “Battle of the Bastards,” were chosen as showrunners. Sapochnik would also direct both the first episode of the series and additional episodes.
